2027 Team Competition
This shows what a season long team competition could look like for the WSBA.
In such a contest, members from each team can contribute points directly to their
respective teams. These team points accumulate all season long. The graph below shows the
top 10 teams from the 2024 season using a prototype points system.
Whatever the algorithm or rules for earning team points actually turns out to be, they should have the following properties:
- Each athlete should be able to earn points for their team at every race
- Each athlete should be able to see exactly what contribution they make towards their team's points
- Athletes should earn more team points for finishing better in their race
- Athletes should earn more team points for racing in harder races
- The team points contest should not simply be a measure of who has the biggest team
- There should never be any incentive for a person to not race. That is, no matter the circumstances, an athlete
should only be able to help their team by racing.
